QUESTION:
How do I alter the height of an existing zone ?
ANSWER:
To change the height of a zone, simply select the floor object from which it was created and change its Extrusion Vector in the Selection Information panel on the right hand side of the main application window. By default, zones are extruded vertically in the positive Z axis, however you can set any 3D extrusion vector you want using these values.
Don't forget to select the Apply Changes button to actually make the change if it is not checked by default.
Also this will only work if the zone geometry is still linked. If you have unlinked the zone geometry (Edit Menu » Unlink Objects) it subsequently will not be editable as a set of associated objects. Unlinking forces you to edit object geometry individually using an object's nodes. Either double-click the object to edit, or hit the F3 key once an object is selected to display it's nodes.
Unlinking a Zone does not cause any problems for analysis later on, and can often be the only way of altering geometry to represent more complex forms.
However, it is important to remember that child objects, like windows and doors etc. do need to have a link relationship with their parent objects -- without a child/parent relationship link a window (for example) will not act as a hole in a wall, light, heat and sound etc. will not pass through the window in contrast to the wall, and other analysis aspects will also be incorrectly affected.
