Why is a Rename Zone dialog box always displayed when I create a new zone, and can I get rid of it ?

ANSWER:

This is simply a prompt to indicate that you have just created a new model zone (as well as simply adding some geometry) and gives you the opportunity to name it appropriately instead of using the default Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, etc. Just hit the Escape key to get rid of the box without entering a name, the defaults names will be used instead.
