Import geometry from other CAD software

QUESTION:

Can I import geometry from my other CAD program into ECOTECT ?

ANSWER:

Yes. At the moment the best way to do this is by DXF and 3DS files. We will soon be adding IFCs as well as XML formats to the import and export functions too.

If you are importing 3D geometry it is best to use a 3DS file from AutoCAD. For AutoCAD users type 3dsout at the command prompt and then follow the instructions. DXF's are best for 2D geometry. You also need to explode any block objects before exporting as a DXF. They will not import correctly into ECOTECT, and neither any changes in UCS done to create geometry.

For more details on Importing CAD geometry into ECOTECT, have a look at the tutorial "Importing CAD Geometry - 3DS & DXF files" that comes with ECOTECT.
