Opening windows; zone management vs. activation settings

QUESTION:

In opening windows does the Zone Management settings over-ride the Activation settings (under Selection Information) and is it essential to select a schedule if using the Activation settings ?

ANSWER:

The Zone Management settings only relate to internal loads and zone ventilation rates. The material properties of windows only set solar and thermal properties of the glazing. Thus, when you activate a window, it swaps between the primary and alternate assignment to simulate closing of blinds, drawing of curtains, etc. Thus the two schedules operate independently and on different parameters.

Regarding schedules, if you assign a schedule to an object it over-rides the on/off times. Thus you can use either the on/off times or a schedule. (see help file topic Modelling » Object Information » Object Activation).
