How does one alter material colour to alter effects of solar gain ?

ANSWER:

Internal and external colour can be changed for any material as detailed in the Element Properties Dialog help page.

There is also a value for Solar Absorption (0-1) for opaque objects which is what is used for solar gain... again in the Properties sub-section of the Element Properties Dialog help page.
