QUESTION:
I see on the Square One website different references to software licences and software activation. What is the difference between a software licence and software activation ?
ANSWER:
Basically a software licence is what you actually purchase from us. It entitles you to use the software subject to the conditions of the kind of licence you purchased; commercial, educational or student.
Software activation is the process that you must go through to physically licence the software on your computer, which lets you fully access and use all the features of your software. You can only activate your software once a licence has been purchased for it.
We offer 2 main types of software activation; Desktop and Network. Each of these are explained in detail on the following web pages:
As the software activation process actually installs a licence file on your computer, and imposes some further conditions on its use, we often refer to the different files as a desktop licence or a network licence. These conditions simply relate to the fact that a desktop licence can only be used on a single computer whilst a network licence must only be served by a single licence server. This is probably where the confusion arises.
