QUESTION:
When I run ECOTECT some letters on the software turn into different characters, what is going wrong ? (I am using Windows ME on my computer).
ANSWER:
There could be a couple of reasons for this.
- If you are using an extended character set (such as Greek, Chinese or Arabic), they simply don't have some of the characters that ECOTECT uses. For example the squared and cubed characters using in units specifications. They should look like W/m² and kg/m³, however if you see an unexpected character in these examples it is due to your Windows character set.
- Without being able to see the exact manifestation of the problem, there is also the possibility that it may be a result of Windows ME running out of system resources. If this is the case, the only recommendation we can suggest you try (other than upgrading OS) is to make sure that you have as few programs and system tray items running whilst using ECOTECT -- this way the OS may be able to allocate the required amount of resources for the software to run. You can find out more details about this on the System Requirements page of our web site.
Windows ME and Win9X have limited system resources, and ECOTECT uses lots of button, edits and checkboxes which quickly use them up, so we don't recommend using ECOTECT on these operating systems if it can be avoided.
