discomfort degree hours

[Archived phorum post from squ1.com v2 by clarice]

Dear Caroline,

It is me again this time asking sth about thermal calculation:

I have some doubts about the discomfort degree hours calculation.
1) Why the vertical axis shows "kDHr" instead of % ? And what is "kDHr"?

2) What is the difference between each algoritm supposed to be set by
the user in this calculation?

I thank you again for your attention and look forward to hearing from
you soon

Best Regards

Clarice

kDHr stands for Thousands of Degree Hours and referres to the amount of time the building was uncomfortable. We originally had this in %, however it did not sufficiently show up the magnitude of discomfort, only the amount of time it was uncomfortable. A degree hour is the sum of time multiplied by temperature difference. This 5 hours at 10 degrees above comfort is 50 DegHr.

What is discomfort degree

What is discomfort degree hours?

I am analyzing my case study and a design prototype with Ecotect however I am experiencing some problems.

When I analyze my case study, the results shows that the spaces I am examining are too cold. In contrast the same sopaces in design prototype are now too hot. The other thing that I have noted is that the sums of the DegHrs (Too Hot & Too Cold) for two spaces can be more than the sum of the DegHrs for the whole house.

I wonder how this works. Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

Regards
