Overshadowing for new development with strange shadow pattern

QUESTION:

I have a model in ECOTECT which I want to analyse the impact of a new developments overshadowing using a sun-path diagram. The problem I am having, is that when I turn on the Zones with the new geometry I get unusual and incorrect shadow patches in some areas.

It looks as though the sun-path diagram just needs to be "refreshed" and drawn from scratch -- how can I force this to happen ?

ANSWER:

The diagram should refresh automatically on any change in the model, but sometimes it does get confused. If this happens there are a couple of things you can try.

  1. Try switching the selected point or object that the sun-path diagram is being generated from, and then switch back to the one that you really want to see. At each change ECOTECT should re-calculate the sun-path diagram.
  2. This method quite often works the best, that is if you switch the type of sun-path projection (i.e. from Stereographic to Orthographic say) and then back again to the one you want. This forces ECOTECT to completely re-calculate the sun-path diagram.

If neither of these methods work then it could be an issue with graphics card/drivers on your computer or perhaps the model geometry some how -- but these are very unlikely.
